There’s no theme to this week’s show. These are some songs I enjoyed that I thought you might enjoy, too. Actually, looking back on the list – this is a lot of new music.

I planted a coontie earlier this year, and it’s finally growing. Coontie is the only cycad native to Florida, and it attracts the blue atala butterfly, which was thought extinct until recently.

Normally, this is peak beach season for locals. It’s hot and the roads and beaches are mostly clear, even at bigger access points like Jacksonville Beach. We’re skipping the beach for safety precautions – COVID-19 numbers are setting records across Florida, and I am a strong believer in better safe than sorry.

Higher ed is tired, literally. Nearly every VP, President, faculty or staff member I spoke with this week expressed weary feelings ranging from exasperation to exhaustion. This is coming just as the national discussion has higher ed in their cross hairs. The solutions universities are offering range from downright dangerous to unsustainable.

Our friend and former teammate Chuck Greeson left Texas Wesleyan last week. He served as university videographer for nearly a decade at Texas Wesleyan, capturing the heart and soul of an incredible time at that university. We’re excited for Chuck’s new venture in Washington, D.C. We’re planning something special for next week.

A few notes:

  • New music from Haim, Phoebe Bridgers, The Marias, Flying Lotus, Algiers, Quantic, Tycho, Neil Young, Soccer Mommy, Charli XCX and, of course, Drake.

  • In the first talk break I mistakenly refer to Mike Kinsella of American Football as Matt Kinsella. Sorry, Mike.

  • New work happening this week from our friends at Stamats, Central Michigan and North Greenville University

  • “Love Will Find a Way” by Pablo Cruise. You can’t deny it.
